Turn the Record Over, Vol. 3

Music and writing have always gone hand in hand for me. Music inspires the writing; I write to the music- the circle goes on and on. Often, it’s a line in a song that unlocks something in me. And usually, though the song says one thing- it makes me think of something else entirely.

That was the thinking that inspired these collections of short stories. To use the first and last lyrics of a song and write an entirely new tale between them. Creating what I came to call "turning the record over."

Volume one had eleven tracks (or stories), while volume two only had four. Both sets were the same but different. Tiny tales, a few thousand words or less, inspired by songs that were old favorites, contained odd lyrics, were recommended by some of my favorite humans, had catchy rhythms or were just new favorites I had become mildly obsessed with.

For Volume Three, the sounds and the songs come from all over; Scotland, Ireland, Canada, London, and plenty scattered across the states.

What started as a distraction from the oddity of 2020, has turned into a way to get the extra thoughts out of my head- while also putting to good use all those songs I play on repeat. And, of course, to share some great music you might not have heard before.

And all of it, each volume, has been commemorated with a set of stickers. Because stickers are still everything. And probably will be. Even when I’m seventy.

So, no more non-lyric related words for now. Now… it’s time to turn the record over to the songs and short stories of volume three.
